2016 RAM 1500 Uconnect & Bluetooth Pairing Problems
The 2016 RAM 1500 could have different radio systems, including Uconnect 5.0 and 8.4 equipment. Bluetooth pairing, phone menus and navigation features depend on the installed unit, not simply the truck’s model year or trim badge.

Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.
2016 RAM 1500 multimedia equipment: where to start
| System | Published reference | Owner check |
|---|---|---|
| Radio 3.0 | Basic multimedia equipment in Canadian ST | May not have the same phone features as Uconnect touchscreen |
| Uconnect 5.0 | 5-inch touchscreen in Canadian SLT equipment overview | Check phone and More/Settings menu for pairing and trailer controls |
| Uconnect 8.4 | 8.4-inch touchscreen listed in Canadian Sport | Navigation-ready does not establish activated navigation |
| Bluetooth phone | Requires a compatible phone and correct supported profile | Available contacts, audio and voice features vary by device |
Radio availability is configuration- and market-dependent. Consult the actual radio’s 2016 Uconnect user instructions and the device manufacturer’s compatibility guidance; some modern phone features are unavailable on older units.
Identify the head unit before troubleshooting
Look at the screen size, physical buttons and settings menus, then compare the vehicle’s equipment record. A phone-pairing guide for an 8.4-inch screen may not match a 5.0 unit. If a previous owner replaced the radio, the original VIN build record may no longer describe the hardware.
Pairing a phone for the first time
Park the truck. Turn on the radio and phone Bluetooth, open the Uconnect Phone or Bluetooth pairing menu appropriate to the head unit, and make the phone discoverable. Select the vehicle on the phone or the device on the radio, then confirm that the displayed pairing code matches before approving. Grant contact and audio permissions only if you want those functions.
When the phone will not reconnect
Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled and the phone is not connected to another vehicle or headset. Restart the phone and the radio only by manufacturer-approved methods, then try manually reconnecting. If the pairing record is corrupted, remove it from both the phone and vehicle and pair again. Keep a note of saved radio settings before performing any reset.
Calls work but music does not
Phone calling and media audio use different Bluetooth functions. Check whether the correct audio source is selected and whether the device supports the required profile. Contact transfers, voice commands and text features also depend on permissions, supported phone software and radio version. A successful phone call does not prove every media feature is supported.
Navigation, firmware and updates
A factory description such as navigation-ready means the hardware may support navigation, not that maps or activation are installed. Check the actual radio model and official Uconnect instructions before buying a map update or downloading firmware. Avoid unofficial update files that could disable the head unit.
If the screen is black or reboots
Check battery/charging health and any related radio fuse using the 2016 fuse chart. Note whether the failure occurs during starting, in heat, or only when a phone is connected. Do not replace the screen or radio until a technician checks power, grounds, fault codes and any applicable official service guidance.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
