2016 RAM 1500 Sport Trim: Features & Differences
The 2016 RAM 1500 Sport is a distinct factory trim, not simply a 4x4 badge. Canadian Sport equipment includes 20-inch wheels, premium projector headlights, bucket seats and an 8.4-inch Uconnect system. Verify market and options by VIN.
Technical information reviewed: 2026-11-07

Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.

Sport versus Big Horn and Outdoorsman
Sport emphasizes a body-colour exterior, bucket-seat interior and projector lamps in the Canadian equipment sheet. Big Horn emphasizes chrome trim and its own comfort packages, while Outdoorsman has more utility and off-road-oriented equipment such as skid protection on listed 4x4 configurations. None of those names identifies a particular 4WD transfer case by itself.
Does a 2016 RAM Sport have a 5.7L HEMI?
A 5.7L HEMI appears in Sport configurations, but model-year equipment differs by market and order. Confirm the engine on the under-hood label and VIN build record, then check whether the transmission is the six- or eight-speed before buying service parts. Sport does not turn the truck into a separate engine model.
Sport headlights and replacement parts
The premium bi-halogen projector low beam is listed as 9005SI+ in the 2016 user guide, while a standard quad-headlamp low beam is H11LL. That difference is why a bulb listing marked simply “2016 RAM 1500” can be wrong for a Sport. Confirm the actual factory headlamp assembly or any aftermarket conversion.
What to inspect on a used Sport
Check the projector lenses for haze or moisture, the 20-inch wheels for damage, interior touch controls and the full-length console for missing trim. Test the radio, USB ports, power seat and rear camera only if the actual truck is equipped with them. Look at tire loading and payload labels rather than assuming a sportier trim changes capacity.
Sport 4x4 is a separate equipment question
A Sport can also have 4x4, but the trim name alone does not establish whether the transfer case has 4WD AUTO. Inspect the selector. On a test drive, verify that available modes engage without warning messages and follow the manufacturer’s shifting rules. Avoid using locked 4WD on dry pavement.
Sport headlights and replacement parts
The Canadian Sport equipment list includes projector-style headlights, but replacements still need the actual assembly type and VIN. Do not order bulbs, headlight housings or harnesses by the Sport badge alone. Confirm whether an earlier owner changed the lamps to aftermarket units; the original parts catalogue will not describe those modifications.
Sport wheels and towing
Sport appearance equipment does not establish the wheel load rating or towing capacity. Check the installed tire sidewall, driver-door tire placard, hitch label and axle ratio. A larger wheel can affect tire choice and ride, but the engine, transmission, axle, cab and payload information are what matter when finding the truck’s published trailer-weight row.
Confirm country and option package before choosing parts
The detailed trim examples above come from 2016 Canadian equipment information. The U.S. RAM brochure also offered this trim name, but individual packages and standard equipment were not necessarily identical in both markets. Confirm the VIN, cab, engine, wheel, headlight and drivetrain equipment before treating a Canadian trim list as the specification of a U.S. truck.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
