MAINTENANCE & FLUIDS
2016 RAM 1500 Service Intervals
Follow the 2016 RAM maintenance schedule for your engine and driving conditions. The oil-change indicator does not replace inspections of tires, brakes, fluids and suspension.
Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.
Normal versus severe service
Frequent towing, extensive idling, dusty roads and short trips can make an owner’s use more demanding than highway commuting. The manual has service schedules and engine-specific exceptions.
A useful inspection routine
At each oil service, inspect tire wear and pressure, fluid leaks, brake condition, steering components and underbody corrosion. Record mileage, date and products used.
Items that are easy to forget
Inspect brake hoses, suspension boots, steering wear and exhaust components while the truck is on a hoist. Tire rotation and pressure checks are not replaced by the oil-life monitor. For 4WD trucks, include transfer-case and axle inspections in the appropriate schedule.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
