COMMON PROBLEMS
2016 RAM 1500 5.7 HEMI Tick & Engine Noise
A ticking 5.7L HEMI can have several causes, including an exhaust leak or internal valvetrain noise. A sound alone is not a reliable diagnosis.
Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.
Listen for the pattern
An exhaust-manifold leak may be more obvious on a cold start and change as metal heats. Valvetrain or lubrication problems can have different patterns and may be accompanied by misfires.
What to investigate
Document cold/warm behaviour and warning lights. Have the exhaust manifolds, fasteners and engine condition inspected before approving major engine work.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
