Identify the axle and transfer case
Axle ratio, limited-slip equipment and 4x4 transfer-case type can change the fluid specification and servicing instructions.
Inspection before service
Look for pinion and axle-seal leaks, water intrusion after deep-water crossings, and noise that changes under load. Incorrect lubricant can damage clutches or bearings.
